Why do teachers hit parent with their children’s homework
A mother of 2 Jessica Shaka lamented over her children’s teachers shifting total teaching responsibility to her after her 7-year-old Son Maison and 5-year-old Damian brought a backpack full of all subject homework typically for her to do.
” I’m not against teaching my children or encouraging them to do their homework, What I’m against is the fact that their teachers are neglecting their responsibility to teach the kids in class and rather have them bring whole lots of homework for their parent to teach them.
” My children come home ‘daily’ with a heap of homework, after being in school from 8 am- 2 pm Monday through Friday.” She added how can her children come home with 3-4 different subjects daily. That’s about 6-8 homework every day for her two children
“Let’s assume I come from a different nationality where I may not understand how to read and write and in English, prompting me to pay a lot of money for my child’s school fees. Then it becomes disturbing seeing my children coming home with huge homework for me to do when I have no idea on how to help him,”
“Of course, homework is a great way to help your child get extra learning process from home but let school work be school work while homework remains homework.”
“I’m sending out this question because, my 6-year-old son just came home with a fresh topic on Maths, English, Verbal reasoning and French subject, particularly the French I have no idea on how to help him.”
- Do you think Shaka is taking this out of context or do you think some of the teachers should put more effort in teaching children in the classroom and cut the excessive homework
